Support for Whānau (family)

Our services are available to people living in the Western Bay of Plenty – from Waihi Beach in the north, to Otamarakau in the south-east, and as far west as the Kaimai Ranges.

We understand that when someone you love is unwell, it can affect the whole whānau. We aim to support you to feel heard, understood, and empowered.

What we offer

Family Link supports whānau who are over 18 years of age who have a loved one experiencing mental health or addiction challenges, or who are neurodivergent (e.g., ADHD or Autism).

Our support is free and shaped by what whānau tell us matters most. We adapt our approach to suit each person and situation — because one size never fits all.

In practice, this means we offer:

  • A safe and confidential space for whānau voices to be heard. We can meet at our office, online (Zoom or Teams), by phone, at your home, or at another space that feels right for you.

  • Education and resources to help you better understand your loved one’s mental health or addiction challenges.

  • Practical tools and strategies to strengthen connection and communication within your whānau — including learning about boundaries and self-care.

  • Support for whānau when engaging with mental health and addiction services.

  • Advice on how to access community mental health supports and other available services.

  • Support with prioritising your own well-being and self-care.

How to access our support

  • Whānau can refer directly using our contact form or by directly contacting a member of our team on (07) 577 1457.

  • We also accept referrals from community services such as schools, general practitioners (GPs), and community mental health services.  If you are an organisation wanting to refer, you can access our referral form here.
