The Mental Health Act

It's important for whānau to understand their rights under the Mental Health Act (1992). There has also been some recent changes to this Act which we detail here. We are working on creating our own resources for whānau/family but in the meantime follow the links for more detailed information.

Changes to the Mental Health Act (1992)

On 29 October 2021, Parliament made some changes to the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment
and Treatment) Act 1992. These changes will strengthen the rights of people placed under the Mental Health Act.
The changes are part of the work Manatū Hauora (the Ministry of Health) is doing to improve the care and treatment people get under the Mental Health Act.
